NextGen Software Engineering (Industry)

Next Gen Software Engineering (cooperation of TU Graz, University of Klagenfurt and SelectionArts) investigates how Generative AI transforms two complementary research streams: AI for Software Engineering (AI4SE) and Software Engineering for AI (SE4AI). In AI4SE, the project examines how Generative AI supports requirements engineering, software design, implementation, testing, and maintenance. In SE4AI, it analyses the methods needed to specify, develop, evaluate, and maintain reliable AI-based and agent-based software systems. Particular attention is paid to changing roles, human–AI collaboration, and quality assurance throughout the software lifecycle. The project identifies emerging research questions, methodological gaps, and priorities for future investigations.
